The Rev. Everton Garfield Jackson, Pastor of the Calvary Circuit of Baptist Churches has been in active service pastoral ministry since 1985. Born in the city of Kingston, the Rev. Mr. Jackson was nurtured in his beloved parish of Hanover where he obtained his primary education. He sensed a call to the full time pastoral ministry as a teenager which did not go un-notice by his Pastor, church and wider community. Therefore it was no surprise when he applied to the Jamaica Baptist Union and was accepted to commence his intramural ministerial training in 1981.
His quest for thorough preparedness for his vocation saw him receiving the Diploma in Ministerial Studies from the United Theological College of the West Indies, the Licentiate in Theology, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and Master of Arts degrees from the University of the West Indies.
Apart from his service as a Pastor, the Rev. Mr. Jackson has rendered distinguished service to the Jamaica Baptist Union having served JBU in a number of key positions. He served as Vice President of the Jamaica Baptist Union between 2000-2002 and President between 2002-2004. Currently he is a member of the Jamaica Baptist Union executive; ministerial training, accreditation and school of ministry committees. He is also a member of the JBU superintendents’ council with responsibility for Trelawny and St. James.
His service to the church is not limited to Jamaica but is extended to both the regional and global Baptist Families. He currently serves as the Executive Secretary/Treasurer of the Caribbean Baptist Fellowship and a Regional Secretary of the Baptist World Alliance with responsibility for the Caribbean. As a result he is a member of the Baptist World Alliance executive.
Despite his ecclesiastical responsibilities, the Rev. Mr. Jackson finds time to serve the wider community. He has been closely connected to education over the years having served as chairman and a member of many educational institutions including the United Theological College of the West Indies, Calabar and Cornwall College High Schools. He is the current chairman of the William Knibb Memorial High School as well as Peace Management Initiative – Western and the Salt Spring Peace and Justice Centre. As a Justice of the Peace, he is always in the service of his community.
God has blessed him with a wonderful family which includes his wife Cecelia from 1986 and son Abdu since 1997. His hobbies include cricket, football, music, reading and writing.
